Changes to Endangered Species Act favors agencies
The proposed rule changes allow federal agencies to decide whether protected species would be hurt by the same agencies' projects. This eliminates the independent scientific reviews that have been required for over 30 years. Most agencies do not have wildlife biologists on staff, furthering the question of how federal agencies would assess which species are imperiled. These changes would undo the purpose of the ESA, allowing agencies to forget about their environmental impact.
Comments should be directed to Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne, who said the new regulations included language to ensure the ESA can not be used as a way to promote climate change policy.
